Dear family, friends who are to me as family, and everyotherpersonwhohasrandomlycomeacrossthisblogcompletelyconfusedandcluelesstowhothemillsareandwhattheyredoing...
What a week!-and two days. Last Sunday evening, June 30th, I busied myself in organizing and packing five carry-on bags, supposedly weighing under forty pounds, which were to contain all of my family's material items for the next three months. I admit to the process being quite difficult and at times stressful. At half past three AM I convinced my sleepless eyes to close for an hour before loading the van for the begginning of our journey.
After two short flights I found myself standing in the never ending immigration line at the airport in San Pedro Sula; after the line we, along with every other American there, found our way to Wendy's for frosties! The time had arrived for us to board for our last flight, I gulped as I saw our plane...that was going to take me over water; needless to say I found my seat quickly and shut my eyes. I woke up awhile later to look out my window-once was enough for me. My first step onto Utila I felt like kissing the airstrip (aka, gravel) out of thankfulness to being safely on solid ground again. The surrounding terrian took my breath away, green, all green! There were no signs of civilization save the tiny hut at the end of the airstrip, different and beautiful!
As we (my family, Ms. Erin, and three others including the driver) sped down the lone 'paved' road on this island I caught my first glimpes of where I'd spend a quartar of the year 2008. It's been grand. My mom had us beginning school the very next morning so after searching around the whole bay for an apartment we spent the night at Rubi's Inn. We discovered that our shampoo spilled over every item in one of the bags, leaving our belongings very soapy! It took about an hour for me to clean everything...in the end I found that my straightner was ruined because of the soap, that was an automatic trying of my patience, joy, and contentment. Just so everyone knows, it's working again! :D
School has occupied the majority of our time; funny how I didn't think learning a new language would...lol. Though the process of homework along with daily journaling and quiet time takes hours on end I've come across a place where the hours never seem to last long at all. The beach. Yes, I enjoy the long walk down to the other side of the bay to sit in one of the five perfect spots for complete relaxation and the best view of the whole bay. My walks along the beach shore have been almost perfect.
I would put more details but it's time to walk to church for ladies Bible study. Oh! I can't wait to discribe for y'all the amazing works God has done already!

Stephanie--loved your story and so glad to hear that your straightener is now working. We girls don't like to be without our beauty products no matter how "relaxed" we are. HA! I'm glad you got to sleep on the plane. I think that, whether I was sleepy or not, I would have had my eyes closed on that last leg of the trip!!
Enjoy your bible study tonight.
Oh---you will never guess what I bought at WalMart today.....A Harrap's Spanish and English pocket dictionay!!! Is that loco ov mi?
un abrazzo,
tia Becky and tio Ed
It was great to hear your side of the story Stephanie! ...Especially the last leg of travel. ;) We're studying the book of Jonah in Hebrew class; trying to imagine you saying "Hatiluni el hayam" (Hebrew transliteration for "throw me in the sea"). :p Keep on trusting Him! It's great that you're recognizing the patience-building circumstances that He keeps throwing at you. I'm glad you're fitting in so well as a "natural islander"! May He continue to bless you with love and joy, and opportunities to share them with others!

Jeffrey says "HEY and he loves you guys!"
Take care and hope to see even more pics soon.
